Marketing that can prove its contribution

You are asked to prove your contribution to revenue, with data that breaks off at the handover to sales.

Your agenda

Your contribution breaks at the system boundary, not at the campaign.

As the person responsible for marketing you stand for a contribution that is hard to attribute. The chain from campaign to closed deal runs across several systems, and at every boundary it loses information. In the end marketing and sales argue about where deals came from instead of about the next campaign.

The second difficulty is segmentation. Audiences are built from assumptions, because the actual purchase, usage and service data sits in other systems. Which means you advertise products to existing customers that they already own.

And third, production is a bottleneck: channel demand grows faster than the team. AI can take real pressure off here, but only if brand governance and approvals are settled and not every publication becomes a one-off case.

If at least one of these points applies, an initial consultation is worthwhile.

Two colleagues stand at a long oak table in front of a dark felt pinboard and compare a laptop and a tablet whose backs face the camera.
What stands in the way…

The contribution to the pipeline cannot be attributed end to end.

What stands in the way…

Segmentation rests on assumptions, not on purchase and service data.

What stands in the way…

Existing customers receive offers for what they already own.

What stands in the way…

Content production is the bottleneck while channel demand grows.

What stands in the way…

AI is used in the team, but without approvals and brand guidelines.

What changes for you

Attribution that holds, and segments from real data.

01

A traceable contribution

The chain from campaign to closed deal does not break at the system boundary, so attribution holds.

02

Segments from real data

Purchase, usage and service history instead of assumptions, on one customer picture.

03

Production relieved

AI supports variants and channels, with approvals and brand guidelines.

04

Campaigns with impact

What works is measurable, and what does not gets stopped instead of repeated.

How you measure it

Contribution to the pipeline counts, not reach.

What is meaningful is the contribution to the pipeline, not the reach: how many qualified cases arise per channel, what one of them costs, and how many of them actually turn into business. This chain needs a continuous customer picture, otherwise the measurement ends at the click.

For existing customers a second figure joins: the share of outreach that matches the current contract state. It sounds technical, but it is the best indicator of whether marketing works on real data or on lists.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions: CMO

Why does our attribution break off?

Because the chain runs across several systems and loses information at every boundary. The precondition for attribution that holds is a continuous customer picture; see Enterprise CRM Platform.

May AI produce content for our brand?

With guidelines and approvals, yes. Without both, every publication becomes a one-off case for legal and brand governance. The rules for it are created in the Agentic Operating Model.

How do we avoid mismatched outreach to existing customers?

By basing segmentation on contract and service data instead of lists. That requires this data to arrive in the customer picture, typically via Connected Data & Integrations.

What about data protection in personalised outreach?

Consents and legal bases belong in the data model, not in a side list. Then personalisation is a question of implementation, not of risk; see Compliance & Security.

Where do we start?

With the question of which decision you cannot take today because the numbers are missing. In the Discovery Workshop that turns into a concrete first step.
